What is Homeopathy?
Homeopathy is a medical science founded and developed by German physician Dr. Samuel Hahnemann in 1790. Homeopathy is an alternative form of medicine that is natural and treats acute and chronic illnesses. It is used by over 200 million people throughout the world. Homeopathy is based on the principle of ‘like cures like’ which resembles the “Law of Similars.” This method of treating disease is based off the principle that using natural substances that can cause symptoms in a healthy person can be used to cure similar symptoms in a person who is ill. Homeopath treats people, not diagnoses. Each individual has their own unique symptoms which brings into consideration to the body, mind, spirit and emotions of that individual to prevent and cure the disease. Individuals with the same diagnosis will not receive the same cure. A homeopath will select the most suitable remedy based off the unique symptoms of the individual.
How does Homeopathy Work?
Homeopathy works on the concept that the body needs to restore itself back to health through a remedy that supports the symptoms and does not suppress them. For example, a substance that causes a certain disease can also be used to treat that disease. The carefully selected homeopathy medicine will provide rapid, gentle and permanent restoration of the health. Take coffee, for example. If coffee is taken at night, it will cause the person to stay awake. However, if given in a diluted form of homeopathy to an individual suffering with insomnia, it is likely to cure it.
What does Homeopathy treatment involve?
Homeopathic treatment involves individualization of the patient. Treatment may involve multiple visits depending on the nature of the illness. Curing chronic illnesses may take longer than curing acute. The homeopath will take a careful case history and perform a physical examination when necessary. All information will be kept confidential and will not be disclosed unless consented by the patient or required by law. A homeopath will observe and listen to all of your symptoms and how they affect you to select a remedy that is most suitable for the unique individual. The remedy that best matches the individual’s symptoms is called the “simillimum.” This simillimum remedy will cure the illness based on the principle of ‘like cures like.’
